2011-2012 Symposium

Copyright & Creativity: Perspectives on Fixation, Authorship, & Expression

Friday, January 27, 2012 at Vanderbilt Law School

The Symposium, entitled “Copyright & Creativity: Perspectives on Originality, Authorship, & Expression,” focused on legal issues surrounding copyright and creative forms, such that stakeholders may come together for dialogue regarding the evolution of both law and creative expression. Panels addressed the intersection of copyright and arguably creative works. Should copyright law afford such works categorical protection? Should copyright doctrines change in order to promote creativity? The Symposium encouraged the critical examination of fundamental copyright concepts and assumptions. This event, which was open to the general public, featured eminent copyright scholars and creative industry professionals.
